Young shares how she found the winning formula that worked for her. Read Young’s story in her own words……..

“I had tried JCF Boot Camp a few times when it was offered outdoors back in 2009 and Coach Daris was running JCF by himself. Great sessions back then, too, but it was outdoors, rain or shine. It wasn’t until January of 2017 that I became a regular member. And now, a year and a half later, I attend 5 to 6 sessions per week. Even when I’m out of town, I now work out on my own. You can say that I am hooked! #alldayeveryday

In 2017, I decided to join because my diving vacation was coming up in a month and I needed to fit into my wetsuit that was purchased 6 months prior. In the months leading up to joining JCF I was gaining weight, even though I was working out regularly at a gym, because I was going through female middle-age change plus eating and drinking a little too much.

Though I still had my gym membership, I decided to join the Rock My Skinny Jeans Challenge because I knew the workout sessions were going to be challenging, and it included structure and a nutrition coaching component. This proved to be the winning formula. While I had been eating healthfully, my portion size was out of whack and the importance of macros (protein, carbohydrates, and fat) had not been incorporated previously.

At the end of the challenge, I had lost 10 lbs, reduced my body fat by 4.1%, and gained 2% muscle. As a result, I didn’t have to buy a new wetsuit!

In the beginning, my two biggest challenges were getting up early enough and being able to complete the session without taking a break. After a few weeks I noticed the change in my attitude and mood, and I began to feel accomplished on the days I was able to complete workouts in the morning. Now, it has become a habit. I go to sleep early, get up early without an alarm and I can finish the workouts without taking extra breaks.

In the year and a half since joining in JCF, I have lost 25 lbs, reduced body fat by 10% and gained 4.9% of muscle. I now wear a single-digit clothing size, which I haven’t been able to since age 12! I’m able to run a 10K without stopping to walk, and I can do 25 full-on, legitimate push-ups in a minute. I stand taller with better posture and have more confidence in my physical abilities–all thanks to the JCF Coaches and the crew!

I’m still a work in progress and look forward to reducing more body fat, gaining more muscle, and getting faster. I may possibly even run a half marathon next year. My longer term goal is to become a personal trainer in 5 years when I retire from my primary job. This way I can have health training in my life all day, every day and help others achieve their health goals.

If you have been wondering about JCF, give it a try. You won’t regret it. They are 45-minute sessions of high-intensity interval training or functional strength training five days a week and once on Saturdays. The JCF Coaches are always ready with their challenging sessions plus a can-do, high-five, positive attitude, and my fellow members are working out their hardest and encouraging one another. It will become your good habit, as it has become mine. #IJCF”
